In a virtual kick-off on April 26, 2022, the graduate school #MarDATA | Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel in Kiel and showed potential for companies looking for specialists, experts for handling data volumes and flows. The joint initiative of GEOMAR – Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), together with their university partners, the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, the University of Bremen and from the Jacobs University in Bremen. MarData is financed by the Helmholtz Association and aims to further educate computer science graduates who receive marine science training in a three-year doctoral program. The combination of both focal points is particularly interesting for companies that work with marine data in the hardware and software environment. However, companies that do not focus on dealing with marine data but instead focus on big data and the processing and evaluation of large amounts of data can also benefit from the expertise of the graduates.

In the next step, the companies will be challenged: anyone who would like to find their future data specialist among the graduates is cordially invited to our reverse pitch event on August 24, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is a partnership between GMT, Kieler Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Strukturentwicklungs GmbH (KiWi), DiWiSH, MCN SH and TransMarTech.
