Kiel, March 10, 2022
In the week from September 19, 2022 to September 24, 2022, the Transfer Center for Maritime Technologies SH, together with the Smart KielRegion team and in cooperation with various project partners from science and business, is organizing a special participation format for the second time, the hackathon for coastal and marine protection .

The hackathon is something like a productive specialist conference with the aim that interdisciplinary teams experience active knowledge transfer, basic research is linked with innovative ideas and conceptual projects or product prototypes are developed from the ideas. Concrete implementation projects can and should then be created. During this week, citizens, researchers and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to develop solution concepts or prototypes together.

Objective: Actively implemented knowledge transfer & development of prototypes

“Experiential knowledge transfer and cooperation in interdisciplinary teams are essential for the development of new business models and products. In particular, we need more speed in practical implementation. The focus must also be on new future maritime topics such as biomaterials and alternative food sources from the sea. There is great potential here in knowledge transfer from basic research to new maritime business models.” explains project manager of TransMarTech SH, Julia Plath.
The special feature of the ORCC 2022: the challenges are posed by maritime companies related to the Kiel region, which are processed within 4.5 days by entrepreneurs, citizens and researchers in interdisciplinary teams. The solution concepts are the starting point for specific projects or new (digital) and smart business models with model character in the region.

Maritime issues move the Smart KielRegion
The Smart KielRegion is a model project that develops and implements municipal digitization measures. The aim of the model project is to secure and improve the quality of life of people in the Kiel region with smart solutions. Due to the geographic location of the region, coastal and marine protection is one of the main fields of action and, thanks to local expertise, offers the potential to develop a pioneering role in this area nationwide.
The sea plays a central role in climate change. For the 2.8 million people in the Kiel region, the sea is both an economic factor and the center of their lives with a high quality of life. Maritime companies in Schleswig-Holstein are currently facing the great challenge of having to develop new technologies at a faster pace in order to ensure the future viability of the industry and at the same time promote coastal and marine protection.

For the Smart KielRegion project, the ORCC 2022 is making an important contribution to the generation of a Smart Region strategy that is to be implemented in the coming years. Everyone is invited to participate with their own ideas and suggestions. “ The more people get involved and the more diverse the perspectives are, the better. We need everyone on board to shape the digital future,” affirms Franziska Stalf, contact person for coastal and marine protection in the Smart KielRegion team. Finally, she and Julia Plath welcome ideas and concepts that will accompany you and your teams after the hackathon and network with partners from the region in the implementation phase and support them financially.

participation
Before the actual event week, interested parties can take part in regional events in Kiel, in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district and in the Plön district and actively contribute their ideas there in advance, which are then to be worked on during the hackathon week.
