In today’s world, knowledge transfer is a key factor for social coexistence. The new meeting area with format – the FLOATING DECKS – at the Quartier Seefischmarkt is intended to enable learning from each other, exchange and joint (controversial) discussion between science, business and society.

With the FLOATING DECKS, the Association of Business for TransMarTech would like to give the transfer of knowledge between science, business and society more opportunities for meetings and exchanges in public spaces during the summer months of May-September. Today, the space was officially opened with an after-work event by association member and treasurer Tim Schneider. The Quartier am Seefischmarkt on the eastern shore offers optimal conditions for informal exchange on all topics related to the sea due to its location and the resident universities, companies and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research as well as the Transfer Centre for Maritime Technologies. Managing Director of ZTS Zentrum für maritime Technologie und Seefischmarkt Grundstücksverwaltung GmbH, Dr. Ingo Lübben, sees above all the added design value for the neighborhood: “We are extremely pleased about the FLOATING DECKS on our Seefischmarkt site. I am sure that both our tenants and guests will enjoy using them frequently for networking and exchanging ideas.”

After completion of the new building at GEOMAR, the more than 1000 employees will certainly also be pleased about the new meeting area and the opportunity to get in touch with their neighbors. Director of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Prof. Dr. Katja Matthes, on the new outdoor space: “Innovation and collaboration – this is the fundamental essence of science and business to generate the greatest possible societal benefit. In order to classify these benefits, feedback from society is needed in turn. The joint exchange at eye level is the necessary hub for a functioning cooperation of all. With the FLOATING DECKS, space is created to meet – and inspire – in the face of the sea.”

The FLOATING DECKs may be used free of charge by companies, universities, research institutions, schools, creative people and citizens, i.e. a wide variety of meeting formats are to be offered here, for which the respective organizer is responsible. Özgürcan BaÅŸ, chairman of the Kiel-Ellerbek/Wellingdorf local council, is particularly pleased: “The FLOATING DECKS exploit precisely the potential offered by our district of Wellingdorf on the Schwentine. There was a lack of a place to linger and work together right on the water. That’s exactly what this meeting space offers. As such, it is an absolute value-add for all involved.”

The FLOATING DECKS are supported by the fund ‘Gemeinsam Kiel Gestalten’ of the state capital Kiel.
