August 6th was International Maritime Day. In Kiel, this was celebrated with an event on the Reventlouwiese. In the best weather, various organizations came together and set up their stands. It goes without saying that we from TransMarTech Sh were there together with the Smarten KielRegion for the Ocean Re-Creation Challenge and presented our hackathon.

Our pop-up stand, which was set up quickly, included a lot of information in addition to relaxed seating and drinks. The visitors were able to watch the film from last year’s ORCC, exchange ideas with us and also take one or two small gifts with them.

So we got into conversation with many interested people at the 5-hour event, some of whom we will hopefully see as participants in September. Since the term “hackathon” is still new territory for many, we were able to use the day yesterday to clarify questions and get people excited about our project.

We were entertained musically or artistically all afternoon on the set-up stage. The numerous stalls and restaurants on the kiellinie also catered for the physical well-being. But even apart from these nice side effects, there were exciting things for us to see. We got into conversation with some very interesting organizations that will certainly cross paths in the future. So we are now also represented at the LighthouseSwim of the ThebayAreas and will start there for the TMT and the ORCC.

The Day of the Seas was a strong start to position Kiel as a marine protection city and to anchor this topic in the minds of the citizens. We take a lot away from the event and are already really looking forward to the Ocean Re-Creation Challenge!
